Director Gautham throws Party for Vaaranam Aayiram

It was an evening of glitz and glamour with hot actresses and actors making their way down to bash at Dublin. Director Gautham had thrown a party down there to celebrate the completion of Vaaranam Aayiram prior to its release. Audio for the film was launched during last week and the sales has being doing well. Perhaps, this party was not something to do with the sales of audio and film, but the time to celebrate.

Surya in designed T-shirts and jeans with stylish belt spotted cool along with his wife Jyothika who didn't look so different sans make up. Wow! One could get to see the real dark skin color of Trisha with her pale eyes and wrinkled surfaces below eyes. One of the actress of the film Divya Spandana shook her legs so stunningly while Dhanush kept singing for all the songs…. Madhavan's wife Sarita was there chilling out with Selvaraghavan's wife and Actress Sonia Agarwal. Satyaraj added to the great enjoyment during the occasion. Well, Dhanush's pretty wife Aishwarya wasn't present, but her sister Soundarya Rajnikanth was present down there. Harris Jayaraj, playback singer Naresh Iyer and Cinematographer Arvind Krishna hanged about together…

'I want to act with Surya' - Mandira Bedi

Mandira Bedi, who was in Chennai recently, said that she wanted to share the screen space with Surya. "I would like to act with Surya. I watched the film 'Khakka Khakka' and just loved it," she said.

On not acting in Tamil films after her cameo in 'Manmadhan', the first lady of Indian cricket said, 'I have got many offers. However, I want to do films that excite me and not every movie that comes my way.'

A victim of controversies, Mandira says, "They have now become a part of my life. When I am in distress, I simply keep away from the media."

Surya-Jyothika back on screen with a remake

Surya-Jyothika was the sensational pairs, not just on the screen, but in real life too. Both of them are leading a happy life with a cute baby girl. The films they had paired up together were good hits and their last venture on screen was 'Sillunu Oru Kadhal'. Now, buzzes are that they would be pairing up together for a film that happens to be the remake. Sources close to them have revealed that it would be a Hindi film 'Sunday' that had Ajay Devagan, Aayisha Taakia, Arshad Warsi and Irfan Khan in lead roles.

It is a mystery-thriller where a female dubbing artist misses a Sunday in her life and on the particular day many things seems to have happened around her. On that Sunday, many mysterious characters would have entered into her life, lots of fun, frolic and for the greater shock, a murder. This they call in Hollywood as 'Black Comedy'.

If Surya-Jyothika plays the lead roles, Prakash Raj has been offered to take on the role of Irfan Khan, a struggling actor and Santhanam as Arshad Warsi, a car driver. Nothing has been confirmed till the date and let's waits and see.

Vaaranam Aayiram Music Review

It is said that when Gautham Menon and Harris Jayaraj get together, they make musical magic. With Vaaranam Aayiram, which has taken nearly 2 years in the making and is even today awaited with bated breath, the duo keeps their promise of giving the music lover a range of eminently listen-able songs. From mellifluous ballads to peppy urban beats to quirky folk rhythms, Vaarnam Aayiram is for keeps. And so the chords go…

1. 'Hi Malini' Singers: BG: This one reminds you of George Michael's cult song "Keep The Faith"… and yet, different. It's a peppy, young romantic number with a little infectious rattle here and some jazz-like pieces there. It will take you back to the time YOU were in college, full of life and love.

2. 'Yethi Yethi' Singers: BG: Morcoccan meets Carnatic classical meets young energy – that's Yethi Yethi in a nutshell. This song is bursting with exuberance and some naughty cockiness.

3. 'Oh Shanti' Singers: BG: Undoubtedly one of the finest songs in this soundtrack, Oh Shanti is a blend of a soft ballad, gentle guitars and captivating lyrics. Be prepared to close your eyes and simply lean into the mesmerising voice of Hariharan as he carries you along the flow of this song.

4. 'Oh Shanti '(Mix) Singers: BG: … And if you're done leaning, it's time to wake up and smell the coffee with the bright and energetic mix of the same song. Definitely bridging the culture gap, this song brings together almost-rock beats, evocative yet simple lyrics and fusion instruments and the result is… BOOM!

5. 'Adiye Kolluthey' Singers: BG: It's hot, it's rock-meets-Tamil, it's young, infectious and a seamless confluence of melodies that blend with an electric beat guaranteed to get your feet off the ground. Be prepared for a rumbling splash!

6. 'Alai Melai' Singers: BG: It seems almost out of place, this song. It embraces all things ethnic and nothing urban, except for the mild guitar strains in the background. A deeply melancholic song, one needs to develop a taste for it, especially after the previous numbers. Sudha sounds uncannily like Harris' usual favourite Bombay Jayshree, with her brand of husky wistfulness.

7. 'Anjalai' Singers: BG: Another surprise. Completely folksy and yet, Harris' brand of electronica peeks out every now and then. It's sassy, sexy and very tribal – only you won't be able to tell if it's purely southern or also has some other ethnic influences too, in its finger-drumming beat and twanging instruments.

The SONY Touch When Sony BMG announced entered the world of Southern movie and music content acquisition, there were mixed responses – some were scared that this giant would swallow the smaller players up, some welcomed a possible radical shift to a more universal and professional working system and yet others simply thought they were throwing funding money away. But at the end of the day, they proved that they have what it takes to be a global music giant, as they acquired some of the most popular music of this year, including A.R. Rahman's Sakkarakatti, Himmesh Reshammiya's Dasavathaaram and Harris Jayaraj's Vaaranam Aayiram.

You may remember, A.R. Rahman signed his first mega deal with Sony years ago, to produce both film and non-film music albums, to great global success. With the Sony name comes a host of modern and professionalism-driven processes – they believe in the power of technology, blitzing publicity and a pan-Indian presence for all their content, regardless of language barriers. Thus has Sony taken southern music and movies to a higher plane of global reckoning. With their latest, Vaaranam Aayiram, Sony BMG is all set to grow bigger and stronger.

Surya in Ayan fight scenes

A grand set has been constructed for the Surya starrer 'Ayan' at Binny mills in Chennai for the making of a fight sequence. Directed by K.V. Anand, the movie is being produced by AVM productions, a production company that holds the accolade for making movies since a few decades from the past.

Surya is pitted against Tamanna, the actress who gave a graceful performance in 'Kalloori'. The cargo landing bay in an airport has been envisaged by art director Rajeevan in which a stunt scene was shot for four continuous days. Kanal Kannan choreographed the action in which Surya enacted a cooked up fight against the henchmen of the Villain, played by Bollywood actor Akashdeep Saigal.

Consequently, the end sequence for 'Ayan' is planned to be shot in South Africa by November. It is proposed to be made in a canyon near to Cape Town. Industry talks say that about one fifth of the estimated budget for this movie is to be spent on filming this grand finale.

Audio launch of Vaaranam Aayiram on Sept 24

Day after yesterday is the most special occasion for Director Gowtham Menon for his Vaaranam Aayiram will have its audio launched. List of guests have been maintained as suspense to make it a surprise for those present there at the occasion.

Songs of this film are already launched at radio stations and none of them are really exceptional. The magic of Harris-Gowtham doesn't seem to have worked more as it happened with their previous ventures. Within next one week, there are expected to be two other audio launches of Aegan and Silambattam.

It's an unique move by Sony BMG to popularize the music of Gautham Menon's Vaaranam Aayiram, before the official release of the music album.

Myskin's super hero

While Hollywood has its super heroes like Batman, Spiderman and Superman, strangely Tamil films have no such super heroes. The cost of even stitching a super hero costume is prohibitive.

Since corporate investors are prepared to invest heavily, our young directors have started thinking in terms of a super hero.  Vishal has long wanted to do a super hero role in a film that he wishes to direct himself.

After completing 'nandalala' Myskin plans to direct Surya as a super hero in a film to be produced at a mega budget by UTV. To be titled 'Mugamudi,' the story is one of a super hero.

With his 6 pack abs, Surya already looks like a super hero. The super hero subject would help save costume expenses.

Vaaranam Aayiram’s distinction

Vaaranam Aayiram is the Kollywood's first and the nation's second film to be shot extensively in Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun. Earlier Lakshya starring Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan directed by Farhan Akthar was the only film to be shot here.

Commenting on the experiences of acting in a real military environment, Surya said that the experience was very invigorating; the ambience in the academy was abundant with energy. The actor also said that he had goosebumps of excitement when he first entered the place and donned the uniform. After that he transformed himself into the army captain he plays in the film. He said that the pride and energy associated with an officer's uniform and disciplined life is really awesome.

Gautham and Surya won the hearts of many army personnel they interacted with and are very thankful to the people in charge of the academy who cooperated and made the filming successful.

We think many must have mistaken Surya for a real army captain while he was filming!

Well, it is hard to wait to watch Surya presenting the gallant qualities of an army man on the big screen. It would be a treat!

Mugamoodi in Surya

Surya will play a superhero in a film under Mysskin's direction is 100% correct. It became quite obvious after UTV signed Surya for Mugamoodi to be made under Mysskin's supervision. Now, the news about Surya's new avatar has started to spread. In a year to two, we will see Surya as the "caped crusader" saving people's lives and fighting crime and injustice. It is also said that the film will be Kollywood's version of comic book hero Superman's story. But speculation is rife that the story might be slightly altered to herald the arrival of a new Kollywood superhero. Well, a new genre has begun in Kollywood: our own superhero films!

This is just the beginning and there is more in the offing with director Venkat Prabhu's attraction for Batman and penchant for being different! It might not be a surprise when he decides to do a Kollywood film on Batman or a superhero character inspired by Batman.

With the abundant talent available in Kollywood (our heroes are in no way second to their Hollywood counterparts) and new technology, it definitely possible to make good-quality superhero films in India. One good example is Bollywood film Krissh made on Hrithik Roshan. With method actors like Surya and scriptwriters that we have today, this type of films will be given a new dimension and maybe one day Hollywood will look at us for inspiration. Quite possible! Thoughts are growing richer in Kollywood these days.

And please do not be surprised or alarmed when you see a caped man flying in the skies. It could be our method actor Surya rehearsing for his role!

Surya on Vaaranam Aayiram

Vaaranam Aayiram is the one of the most popular upcoming films. Its popularity and curiosity are because it is a film directed by Gautham Menon starring Surya (who gave Kakka Kakka, the magic on silver screen). Recently, it stoked up public curiosity with a rumour that the film is entirely based on Gautham Menon's real life experiences. But that is not completely true.

Vaaranam Aayiram – in which Surya appears as a 65-year-old man and an 18-year-old lad, paying remarkable attention to the details of physical characteristics of the roles – is not entirely based on its director's life. But some of the film's ideas and concepts have been borrowed from the director's personal experiences; the rest is about his observation and introspection. And the experiences are similar to what every one might have experienced at some  point. According to Gautham, these experiences are universal and every one experiences it at some point. The film is based on the views and observations built around these experiences.

Sivakumar's advice to son Surya and Karthik

This is that period of time in the Tamil film world that almost every hero wants to sport a six-pack-ab. After Shahrukh Khan displayed this supposed 'macho feature' in the film 'Om Shanti Om', almost every actor wants to sport one. Though surprising, Dhanush started it all in Tamil films displaying his abdomen in the film 'Polladhavan'.

Surya decided to workout in order to obtain a six-pack-ab for Gautham Menon's 'Varanam Aayiram'. Since he had got into shape and it looked appealing on him, he wanted to continue with that look for his next project 'Ayan'. Now that his shooting portion for the film is over, reports suggest that he is back to his normal diet and workout.

Vishal had the packs for 'Satyam'. Looks like actors 'Jayam' Ravi and Vijay Arun too want to sport six-packs and are currently working out.

At a function recently, Sivakumar met these young actors and was aghast to see their cheeks all sunken-in with an unhealthy look (the side effects in sporting a six-pack ab). On returning home, the veteran actor known to endorse a healthy body, got hold of his second son Karthik and spoke to him at length against entertaining any thoughts of having a six-pack.

It is the most awaited audio in recent times and is Harris 26th album. Those who heard the numbers from the album say that the songs rock. Harris is in splendid form especially the retro 60's type song Mundhinam Parthene… picturised on Surya and Simran and the song Adiye Kolluthey.. both potential chartbusters.

These two songs will be premiered at the audio launch and all the cast and crew of the film will be present at the function.

UTV signs Vikram, Surya

UTV, the filmmaking and media corporate giant, has finally managed to make Vikram and Surya sign on the dotted lines of its contracts! Thought big-time corporate companies made solid inroads into Kollywood in the past few years, many top actors of Kollywood remained wary of them, but now their guard is slackening up and they are beginning to see the opportunities that can be provided by these corporate.

As per the contract with UTV, Surya will act in their production titled Mugamoodi, which will be directed by ace director Mysskin. (You might remember the rumour that did rounds a while ago stating Surya will act as a superhero in a Mysskin film. Well, this might be it!)

Suriya is engaged with Vaaranam Aayiram (directed by Gautham Menon) and Ayan (directed by K.V.Anand) at present. Following this, he will start working for this UTV production.

Another actor on board is Vikram, who remained elusive to film production corporate so far. The actor is slated to act in a bilingual to be made by Maniratnam following Kanthasamy.

UTV has zeroed in on two best-known method actors of recent times. It makes everyone curious as to what type of film UTV will make with them. With UTV's power, clout and reputation, which now has coupled with the immense talent of these actors, there is no wonder the results will be mind-blowing.

UTV has also signed a deal with Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu for a film as well. Kollywood's brilliant director Gautham Menon will direct him in this film.

Divya Spandana dubs for 'Varanam Aayiram'

Actress Divya Spandana is currently busy shooting for the highly anticipated film 'Varanam Aayiram' in which she shares the screen with Surya. Sameera Reddy and Simran Bagga are the other heroines of the film.

Divya the reigning diva of Kannada filmdom had acted in Tamil films like 'Kuthu', 'Giri' and 'Polladhavan' which became a smash hit at the box office. Till date she has never dubbed for her characters in Tamil films. On the insistence of Gautham Menon reports indicate that Divya has dubbed for her role in 'Varanam Aayiram' which has in actuality supplemented more emotional impact and realism to the scenes.

Divya, also known by her real name 'Ramya', has turned down a Kannada film offer recently. The film titled 'Mukhiya Manthiri I Love You' required her to play the State's Chief Minister's lady love.
