Tamanna busy in Aegan

In a short span of time, Tamanna has shot to glory in Tamil cinema. Though, she began in a bad start with 'Kedi' and 'Vyapari', Kallori brought a tidal change in her career. Her performance in the movie was highly acclaimed and she was soon flooded with offers.

She is acting with Surya in 'Ayan', produced by AVM and directed by K V Anand, followed by the Dhanush starrer 'Padikathavan'. 'Anandha Thandavam' opposite a newcomer Siddharth and a Telugu film 'Konjam Ishtamga and Konjam Kashtamga'.

'I watched 'Khaakha Khaakha' and became a great fan of Suriya. I was thrilled when I was called to act in 'Ayan' with Surya. Similarly I am excited to work in the Tamil remake of 'Jab We Met' opposite Bharath. I don the role enacted by Kareena in the original,' she says.

Though I get offers in different languages, my priority is to do movies in Tamil. I am getting good offers here, she adds.

Surya promotes Derby

There was not a single person left out to be amazed by the guy's dedication. Attaining the washboard abs followed by loosing a couple of kilos to show off as a teenager is not an easy task but it was for the star of 'Vaaranam Aayiram' Surya.

The actor displayed his efficiency and awed the spectators even before the movie came out. Directed by Gautam Vasudev Menon, the movie chronicles the life of a man from his early teens to his late seventies for which the above said feat was done by Surya.

Varanam Aayiram's audio was launched recently composed by Harris Jeyaraj and evoked rave reviews from the masses. It has been planned to launch the movie this Diwali which will be a perfect present for the occasion.

Recently, the star Surya along with his director Gautam Menon was spotted in the newly opened outlets of Derby. The brand has opened showrooms in Adyar, Kilpakkam and Old Mahabalipuram road for which the duo were present to felicitate the event.

Deepavali race at the box office

It would be an interesting battle at the box-office for Deepavali. The movies releasing to lighten up the festival include Surya's 'Vaaranam Aayiram', Ajith-starrer 'Aegan', Madhavan's 'Guru En Aalu' and Bharath's 'Seval'.

Interestingly, Dhanush's 'Padikathavan' and Silambarasan's 'Silambattam' have backed out of the race at the last moment. It looks likely that they would hit the screens in November.

Expectations are high for 'Varanam Aayiram' that brings together the stunners Suriya and director Gautham Vasudev Menon after 'Kaakha Kaakha'. Ajith's 'Aegan' is expected to open big as it's a come back stylish venture after 'Billa'. Hari wields the megaphone for 'Seval'. Madhavn's 'Guru En Aalu' is inspired by Bollywood hit 'Yes Boss'.

Ajith vs Surya vs Simbu in Deepavali?

With Deepavali hardly a month away, the race has begun to get movies into theaters in time for the festival weekend. At the moment, however there is only one confirmed entrant for the Deepavali weekend and that happens to be Simbu's Silambattam. He will be searching for an elusive hit and Silambattam seems to have the right credentials for the same. The movie will feature Simbu in a dual role for the first time after Manmadhan.

Meanwhile, with Silambattam as the sole confirmed entrant, at least three others are bending their backs to get into theaters for what will be a fairly quite Deepavali. Bharath's Seval under the direction of commercial rural action king Hari is almost ready and the promos are already on air suggesting the usual Hari fare of action in the village milieu. The rugged looks of Bharath have drawn attention. Also Hari's impeccable record when it comes to action flicks has made the movie go a bit high on the expectation meter.

But, all eyes are on the other two gearing up for release. Vaaranam Aayiram and Aegan may clash on Deepavali for sparks to fly, if everything goes as planned. Reports suggest that the works are progressing with fervor to meet the date and nothing can be said as yet. But, with the music released and the promos on air, Vaaranam Aayiram seems to be the more bankable option to make it for the festival season, but Aegan can by no means be ruled out. One need not talk about the expectations that these two movies have generated and if they do face off, it will be one great Deepavali.

Director Gautham throws Party for Vaaranam Aayiram

It was an evening of glitz and glamour with hot actresses and actors making their way down to bash at Dublin. Director Gautham had thrown a party down there to celebrate the completion of Vaaranam Aayiram prior to its release. Audio for the film was launched during last week and the sales has being doing well. Perhaps, this party was not something to do with the sales of audio and film, but the time to celebrate.

Surya in designed T-shirts and jeans with stylish belt spotted cool along with his wife Jyothika who didn't look so different sans make up. Wow! One could get to see the real dark skin color of Trisha with her pale eyes and wrinkled surfaces below eyes. One of the actress of the film Divya Spandana shook her legs so stunningly while Dhanush kept singing for all the songs…. Madhavan's wife Sarita was there chilling out with Selvaraghavan's wife and Actress Sonia Agarwal. Satyaraj added to the great enjoyment during the occasion. Well, Dhanush's pretty wife Aishwarya wasn't present, but her sister Soundarya Rajnikanth was present down there. Harris Jayaraj, playback singer Naresh Iyer and Cinematographer Arvind Krishna hanged about together…

'I want to act with Surya' - Mandira Bedi

Mandira Bedi, who was in Chennai recently, said that she wanted to share the screen space with Surya. "I would like to act with Surya. I watched the film 'Khakka Khakka' and just loved it," she said.

On not acting in Tamil films after her cameo in 'Manmadhan', the first lady of Indian cricket said, 'I have got many offers. However, I want to do films that excite me and not every movie that comes my way.'

A victim of controversies, Mandira says, "They have now become a part of my life. When I am in distress, I simply keep away from the media."

Surya-Jyothika back on screen with a remake

Surya-Jyothika was the sensational pairs, not just on the screen, but in real life too. Both of them are leading a happy life with a cute baby girl. The films they had paired up together were good hits and their last venture on screen was 'Sillunu Oru Kadhal'. Now, buzzes are that they would be pairing up together for a film that happens to be the remake. Sources close to them have revealed that it would be a Hindi film 'Sunday' that had Ajay Devagan, Aayisha Taakia, Arshad Warsi and Irfan Khan in lead roles.

It is a mystery-thriller where a female dubbing artist misses a Sunday in her life and on the particular day many things seems to have happened around her. On that Sunday, many mysterious characters would have entered into her life, lots of fun, frolic and for the greater shock, a murder. This they call in Hollywood as 'Black Comedy'.

If Surya-Jyothika plays the lead roles, Prakash Raj has been offered to take on the role of Irfan Khan, a struggling actor and Santhanam as Arshad Warsi, a car driver. Nothing has been confirmed till the date and let's waits and see.

Vaaranam Aayiram Music Review

It is said that when Gautham Menon and Harris Jayaraj get together, they make musical magic. With Vaaranam Aayiram, which has taken nearly 2 years in the making and is even today awaited with bated breath, the duo keeps their promise of giving the music lover a range of eminently listen-able songs. From mellifluous ballads to peppy urban beats to quirky folk rhythms, Vaarnam Aayiram is for keeps. And so the chords go…

1. 'Hi Malini' Singers: BG: This one reminds you of George Michael's cult song "Keep The Faith"… and yet, different. It's a peppy, young romantic number with a little infectious rattle here and some jazz-like pieces there. It will take you back to the time YOU were in college, full of life and love.

2. 'Yethi Yethi' Singers: BG: Morcoccan meets Carnatic classical meets young energy – that's Yethi Yethi in a nutshell. This song is bursting with exuberance and some naughty cockiness.

3. 'Oh Shanti' Singers: BG: Undoubtedly one of the finest songs in this soundtrack, Oh Shanti is a blend of a soft ballad, gentle guitars and captivating lyrics. Be prepared to close your eyes and simply lean into the mesmerising voice of Hariharan as he carries you along the flow of this song.

4. 'Oh Shanti '(Mix) Singers: BG: … And if you're done leaning, it's time to wake up and smell the coffee with the bright and energetic mix of the same song. Definitely bridging the culture gap, this song brings together almost-rock beats, evocative yet simple lyrics and fusion instruments and the result is… BOOM!

5. 'Adiye Kolluthey' Singers: BG: It's hot, it's rock-meets-Tamil, it's young, infectious and a seamless confluence of melodies that blend with an electric beat guaranteed to get your feet off the ground. Be prepared for a rumbling splash!

6. 'Alai Melai' Singers: BG: It seems almost out of place, this song. It embraces all things ethnic and nothing urban, except for the mild guitar strains in the background. A deeply melancholic song, one needs to develop a taste for it, especially after the previous numbers. Sudha sounds uncannily like Harris' usual favourite Bombay Jayshree, with her brand of husky wistfulness.

7. 'Anjalai' Singers: BG: Another surprise. Completely folksy and yet, Harris' brand of electronica peeks out every now and then. It's sassy, sexy and very tribal – only you won't be able to tell if it's purely southern or also has some other ethnic influences too, in its finger-drumming beat and twanging instruments.

The SONY Touch When Sony BMG announced entered the world of Southern movie and music content acquisition, there were mixed responses – some were scared that this giant would swallow the smaller players up, some welcomed a possible radical shift to a more universal and professional working system and yet others simply thought they were throwing funding money away. But at the end of the day, they proved that they have what it takes to be a global music giant, as they acquired some of the most popular music of this year, including A.R. Rahman's Sakkarakatti, Himmesh Reshammiya's Dasavathaaram and Harris Jayaraj's Vaaranam Aayiram.

You may remember, A.R. Rahman signed his first mega deal with Sony years ago, to produce both film and non-film music albums, to great global success. With the Sony name comes a host of modern and professionalism-driven processes – they believe in the power of technology, blitzing publicity and a pan-Indian presence for all their content, regardless of language barriers. Thus has Sony taken southern music and movies to a higher plane of global reckoning. With their latest, Vaaranam Aayiram, Sony BMG is all set to grow bigger and stronger.

Surya in Ayan fight scenes

A grand set has been constructed for the Surya starrer 'Ayan' at Binny mills in Chennai for the making of a fight sequence. Directed by K.V. Anand, the movie is being produced by AVM productions, a production company that holds the accolade for making movies since a few decades from the past.

Surya is pitted against Tamanna, the actress who gave a graceful performance in 'Kalloori'. The cargo landing bay in an airport has been envisaged by art director Rajeevan in which a stunt scene was shot for four continuous days. Kanal Kannan choreographed the action in which Surya enacted a cooked up fight against the henchmen of the Villain, played by Bollywood actor Akashdeep Saigal.

Consequently, the end sequence for 'Ayan' is planned to be shot in South Africa by November. It is proposed to be made in a canyon near to Cape Town. Industry talks say that about one fifth of the estimated budget for this movie is to be spent on filming this grand finale.

Audio launch of Vaaranam Aayiram on Sept 24

Day after yesterday is the most special occasion for Director Gowtham Menon for his Vaaranam Aayiram will have its audio launched. The occasion will take place at the premises of Satyam Complex at 6.30 pm with who's who of Kollywood taking part in it. List of guests have been maintained as suspense to make it a surprise for those present there at the occasion.

Songs of this film are already launched at radio stations and none of them are really exceptional. The magic of Harris-Gowtham doesn't seem to have worked more as it happened with their previous ventures. One of the main highlights in the film would be Kamal Haasan's daughter Shruthi Haasan rendering her voice for a song. Within next one week, there are expected to be two other audio launches of Aegan and Silambattam.

It's an unique move by Sony BMG to popularize the music of Gautham Menon's Vaaranam Aayiram, before the official release of the music album.

Myskin's super hero

While Hollywood has its super heroes like Batman, Spiderman and Superman, strangely Tamil films have no such super heroes. The cost of even stitching a super hero costume is prohibitive.

Since corporate investors are prepared to invest heavily, our young directors have started thinking in terms of a super hero.  Vishal has long wanted to do a super hero role in a film that he wishes to direct himself.

After completing 'nandalala' Myskin plans to direct Surya as a super hero in a film to be produced at a mega budget by UTV. To be titled 'Mugamudi,' the story is one of a super hero.

With his 6 pack abs, Surya already looks like a super hero. The super hero subject would help save costume expenses.

Vaaranam Aayiram’s distinction

Vaaranam Aayiram is the Kollywood's first and the nation's second film to be shot extensively in Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun. Earlier Lakshya starring Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan directed by Farhan Akthar was the only film to be shot here.

Commenting on the experiences of acting in a real military environment, Surya said that the experience was very invigorating; the ambience in the academy was abundant with energy. The actor also said that he had goosebumps of excitement when he first entered the place and donned the uniform. After that he transformed himself into the army captain he plays in the film. He said that the pride and energy associated with an officer's uniform and disciplined life is really awesome.

Gautham and Surya won the hearts of many army personnel they interacted with and are very thankful to the people in charge of the academy who cooperated and made the filming successful.

We think many must have mistaken Surya for a real army captain while he was filming!

Well, it is hard to wait to watch Surya presenting the gallant qualities of an army man on the big screen. It would be a treat!

Mugamoodi in Surya

Surya will play a superhero in a film under Mysskin's direction is 100% correct. It became quite obvious after UTV signed Surya for Mugamoodi to be made under Mysskin's supervision. Now, the news about Surya's new avatar has started to spread. In a year to two, we will see Surya as the "caped crusader" saving people's lives and fighting crime and injustice. It is also said that the film will be Kollywood's version of comic book hero Superman's story. But speculation is rife that the story might be slightly altered to herald the arrival of a new Kollywood superhero. Well, a new genre has begun in Kollywood: our own superhero films!

This is just the beginning and there is more in the offing with director Venkat Prabhu's attraction for Batman and penchant for being different! It might not be a surprise when he decides to do a Kollywood film on Batman or a superhero character inspired by Batman.

With the abundant talent available in Kollywood (our heroes are in no way second to their Hollywood counterparts) and new technology, it definitely possible to make good-quality superhero films in India. One good example is Bollywood film Krissh made on Hrithik Roshan. With method actors like Surya and scriptwriters that we have today, this type of films will be given a new dimension and maybe one day Hollywood will look at us for inspiration. Quite possible! Thoughts are growing richer in Kollywood these days.

And please do not be surprised or alarmed when you see a caped man flying in the skies. It could be our method actor Surya rehearsing for his role!

Surya on Vaaranam Aayiram

Vaaranam Aayiram is the one of the most popular upcoming films. Its popularity and curiosity are because it is a film directed by Gautham Menon starring Surya (who gave Kakka Kakka, the magic on silver screen). Recently, it stoked up public curiosity with a rumour that the film is entirely based on Gautham Menon's real life experiences. But that is not completely true.

Vaaranam Aayiram – in which Surya appears as a 65-year-old man and an 18-year-old lad, paying remarkable attention to the details of physical characteristics of the roles – is not entirely based on its director's life. But some of the film's ideas and concepts have been borrowed from the director's personal experiences; the rest is about his observation and introspection. And the experiences are similar to what every one might have experienced at some  point. According to Gautham, these experiences are universal and every one experiences it at some point. The film is based on the views and observations built around these experiences.

Sivakumar's advice to son Surya and Karthik

This is that period of time in the Tamil film world that almost every hero wants to sport a six-pack-ab. After Shahrukh Khan displayed this supposed 'macho feature' in the film 'Om Shanti Om', almost every actor wants to sport one. Though surprising, Dhanush started it all in Tamil films displaying his abdomen in the film 'Polladhavan'.

Surya decided to workout in order to obtain a six-pack-ab for Gautham Menon's 'Varanam Aayiram'. Since he had got into shape and it looked appealing on him, he wanted to continue with that look for his next project 'Ayan'. Now that his shooting portion for the film is over, reports suggest that he is back to his normal diet and workout.

Vishal had the packs for 'Satyam'. Looks like actors 'Jayam' Ravi and Vijay Arun too want to sport six-packs and are currently working out.

At a function recently, Sivakumar met these young actors and was aghast to see their cheeks all sunken-in with an unhealthy look (the side effects in sporting a six-pack ab). On returning home, the veteran actor known to endorse a healthy body, got hold of his second son Karthik and spoke to him at length against entertaining any thoughts of having a six-pack.

Vaaranam Aayiram audio launch on Sep 24

"The audio of Vaaranam Aayiram is being launched on September 24th at Sathyam Cinemas", says a spokesperson of Photon Factory, one of the producers of the film. Sony-BMG, has signed a record deal with producer V. Ravichandran for the audio rights of this Surya starrer.

It is the most awaited audio in recent times and is Harris 26th album. Those who heard the numbers from the album say that the songs rock. Harris is in splendid form especially the retro 60's type song Mundhinam Parthene… picturised on Surya and Simran and the song Adiye Kolluthey.. both potential chartbusters.

These two songs will be premiered at the audio launch and all the cast and crew of the film will be present at the function.

UTV signs Vikram, Surya

UTV, the filmmaking and media corporate giant, has finally managed to make Vikram and Surya sign on the dotted lines of its contracts! Thought big-time corporate companies made solid inroads into Kollywood in the past few years, many top actors of Kollywood remained wary of them, but now their guard is slackening up and they are beginning to see the opportunities that can be provided by these corporate.

As per the contract with UTV, Surya will act in their production titled Mugamoodi, which will be directed by ace director Mysskin. (You might remember the rumour that did rounds a while ago stating Surya will act as a superhero in a Mysskin film. Well, this might be it!)

Suriya is engaged with Vaaranam Aayiram (directed by Gautham Menon) and Ayan (directed by K.V.Anand) at present. Following this, he will start working for this UTV production.

Another actor on board is Vikram, who remained elusive to film production corporate so far. The actor is slated to act in a bilingual to be made by Maniratnam following Kanthasamy.

UTV has zeroed in on two best-known method actors of recent times. It makes everyone curious as to what type of film UTV will make with them. With UTV's power, clout and reputation, which now has coupled with the immense talent of these actors, there is no wonder the results will be mind-blowing.

UTV has also signed a deal with Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu for a film as well. Kollywood's brilliant director Gautham Menon will direct him in this film.

Divya Spandana dubs for 'Varanam Aayiram'

Actress Divya Spandana is currently busy shooting for the highly anticipated film 'Varanam Aayiram' in which she shares the screen with Surya. Sameera Reddy and Simran Bagga are the other heroines of the film.

Divya the reigning diva of Kannada filmdom had acted in Tamil films like 'Kuthu', 'Giri' and 'Polladhavan' which became a smash hit at the box office. Till date she has never dubbed for her characters in Tamil films. On the insistence of Gautham Menon reports indicate that Divya has dubbed for her role in 'Varanam Aayiram' which has in actuality supplemented more emotional impact and realism to the scenes.

Divya, also known by her real name 'Ramya', has turned down a Kannada film offer recently. The film titled 'Mukhiya Manthiri I Love You' required her to play the State's Chief Minister's lady love.

Nayantara & Surya paired for first time!

Udayanidhi Stalin's home banner Red Giant Movies has a casting coup- Surya and Nayantara coming together for the first time in an untitled film to be directed by K.S Ravi Kumar. It is going to be Udayanidhi Stalin's second venture after Kuruvi. “Surya is doing Singam”

Vijay after Kuruvi wants to become Singam (Arimaa).  The announcement for the same came out few days before.  The movie is directed by Prabhu Deva.

Already a movie titled Singam, having Surya in the lead role is under production and being directed by Hari.

It seems Vijay has to look for some other name instead of Singam as the name has already been booked for Surya.  Vijay may go with Arimaa - the pure Tamil word for the sanskrit Singam (Simha).

Sameera on Surya

Sameera on Surya

Vaaranam Aayiram directed by Gautham Menon is nearing completion and the film has Simran, Sameera Reddy and Divya in the lead roles. While talking about her co-star Surya, Sameera Reddy states that it is very difficult to perform well especially in the presence of a talented actor like Surya.

She further says, "I have done films in Telugu and Hindi but the role in Vaaranam Aayiram was very challenging and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it." To a further query on her character in the film, the lady preferred to be tight lipped. She is also amazed at the way Surya kept losing and gaining weight for the film and found it difficult to counter him in many scenes which resulted in many retakes from her side. On her next project in Tamil, Sameera said that she has been lassoed on to Gautham Menon's next project with Ajith.

Surya speaks out

While Ajith goes on doing three to four movies a year, Vijay does just two while Surya restricts to one movie a year.

We were wondering why Surya is just doing one movie a year, is this because he gets very few chances to act?

When we contacted Surya, he replied "I want to give the best to my audience and for this reason I don't accept offers that are not worthy. I also want to give atleast one uniqueness in every movie. That's the reason I do one movie a year"

More than about his career and plans he speaks more about Jothika and his daughter

The story heard by Surya from Mishkin

After 'Anjade', Mishkin is directing a film with Vishal.

‘Varanam Aayiram’: Trouble of the Budget

Varanam Aayiram', Surya, Sameera Reddy and Divya starrer, faces an unpredicted trouble even as 80 per cent of the shooting is said to be completed. Producer Oscar Ravichandiran has filled a complaint against director Gautham Menon for exceeding the budget.

According to the producer, the initial budget was fixed as Rs. 10.5 crores on first copy basis. Later, the producer claims, Gautham demanded an additional 3.5 crores to complete the movie.

Annoyed by the increased budget, the producer has lodged a complaint in Producers' Council against the director. He has said that the increase is unbearable.

However, the sources close to the unit say that the problem would be amicably sorted out soon and the shooting would resume without much delay. The problem in obtaining shooting permission in various places led to the increase in the cost, inform the sources.

The next schedule of the shooting will be held in Delhi, Varanasi and Malaysia. If everything goes well, the movie will hit the halls by the summer season.

Surya Varanam Aayiram Casting

surya

After the cancellation of Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam, originally starring Surya Sivakumar, Asin Thottumkal and Daniel Balaji, Gautham Menon, keeping the male leads the same, wanted to opt for a new heroine to begin Vaaranam Aayiram. Initially, Deepika Padukone was signed up and set to make her debut in Tamil films, however she backed out due to the inactiveness of the film and signed the Bollywood film, Om Shanti Om instead. Soon after another confirmed heroine, Andrea Jeremiah was dropped from the film for unknown reasons. Asin expressed her desired to be a part of the project, however the male lead, Surya, rebut her offer citing that she had walked out of his previous film, Sillunu Oru Kadhal and refused to act opposite her.

The twist in Vaaranam Aayiram

If one had a close look at two of the biggest hits of Gautham Menon – Kaaka Kaaka and Vettaiyadu Vilayadu, apart from both being cop stories and backed by power performance of the cast, there was another line of similarity - show the way ladies of both the movies, be it Jyothika of Kaaka Kaaka or Kamlini Mukherjee of Vettaiyadu Vilayadu, get killed. Even Jyothika in Vettaiyadu Vilayadu was shown to be killed in the initial days of release of the movie only to be changed later and in DVD version.

If a birdie from Kollywood is to be believed, even in the director's upcoming Vaaranam Aayiram, the heroine (Sameera Reddy) is killed due to unfortunate circumstances of events. This is when the twist in the story creeps up with the arrival of Ramya into the scene. Seems like the director believes that the death of his heroines could bring his movies some luck as well as a huge empathetic fan-following for the Hero as well.

A story about a go-getter and the impact of these two heroines on his life, the same birdie also lets us know that Vaaranam Aayiram has the potential to be the best of Gautham with some great music by Harris Jeyaraj and breath taking camera by Ratnavelu.

With big time expectations cropping up on this Surya-Gautham combination after Kaaka Kaaka, we hope the same magic is weaved by Gautham and his excellent team of cast and crew. So until then let's keep our fingers crossed and see if this proves to be yet another feather in Gautham's cap.

Vaaranam Aayiram Research

When Gautham Menon was examine correspondent if 'Derailed' was his source of inspiration for "Pachaikili Muthucharam", he answered in negative and said that the film was based on a story by James Siegel. While talking about the delay in Vaaranam Aayiram, he says, "I have been doing extensive research on Vaaranam Aayiram. It is because of this that the film is getting delayed but certainly not due to any financial crisis or any other issues as reported by the media".

Gautham was in England collecting some research material for Vaaranam Aayiram when he had to rush back home owing to the sudden termination of his father. He was to be in England on the release of his "Pachaikili Muthucharam" but what fate had in store for him was totally different. He had to perform the last resources of his father on the same day of "Pachaikili Muthucharam" release.

Friendly Suriya: Divya’s excitement

Surya's dual role Vel has become his biggest hit of recent times. This Deepvali release is celebrating 50 days in 71 screens across the state.

Surya has always been popular in the A centres, but with Vel, he has become popular in the B and C centres as well. Hari has converted Surya into a mass hero.

Surya's dual act, Hari's racy narration and the rustic locations have made this film the biggest Deepavali grosser. Vadivelu's comedy track and the Surya-Asin pair added to the success of the film.

Riding high on the success of the film, Surya is now busy completing Gautham Menon's Vaaranamaayiram and has been signed for AVM's next film to be directed by K.V. Anand

Surya - The Next Superstar

It is very clear - Surya currently leads the race to become the next superstar of Tamil cinema. One can arrive at no other conclusion after watching Vel.

Surya's introduction scene in the movie is cliched - and he uses even more cliches when he talks about how to hold the aruvaal. But once the dust settles, his acting talent reveals itself, and so is his ability to win over every section of the audience.

That is not to say that Surya can be all-conquering. He is yet to prove himself in a full-length comedy (Mayavi was a decent attempt; Mounam Pesiyadhae was good, but it came before Surya was a star). And he has to find a way to weave in some humour into his roles, which are all pretty serious. And evolve as a mass hero, without compromising on his strong points.

Tough ask, but Surya combines an excellent physique, good looks and far better histrionics than his rivals. Which makes him a deserving candidate to be the next SUPERSTAR!

Following Kalloori, Tamanna will be seen in Anandha Thandavam, opposite beginner Siddharth and a film under the AVM banner opposite her favourite star, Surya. Tamanna is very excited about this film and she hopes that she will get to learn a lot from the talented actor.

Tamanna also had a great year in Telugu. Her film Happy Days was a big hit. She now has three films in Tollywood keeping her busy.

‘Vaaranam Ayiram’ – heaven regained

Actor Surya

How would one feel when you go overseas, get authorization with difficulty to shoot in certain locations, spend several lakhs on shooting and then discover that the film rolls with these scenes are missing? That would give anyone a foreboding! This is exactly what happened to the 'Vaaranam Ayiram' unit.

Oscar Films is producing 'Vaaranam Ayiram' at a enormous budget. The shooting is taking place at the US now. Director Gautham Vasudeva Manon acquired permission with difficulty for certain locations and shot scenes of Surya and Sameera Reddy and a song. Grand sets were also put up for these scenes. Two production managers traveled to Chennai with these rolls, but had to stay a day in Singapore on the way back. On arriving in Chennai they found the box with the film rolls missing.

When enquiring with the airlines, the staff shrugged that no such box was loaded on the flight. The box was not to be found at the hotel they stayed in Singapore either. This devastated the managers. opportunely they just received sweet news that the box was safe at the Singapore airport. That's like heaven regained. It's also the dream regained of so many million viewers!.

Telugu Vel in problem!

Tamil films dubbed in Telugu have always generated good done business in Andhra. Now, it is a regular practice to release majority of big films quality top heroes simultaneously in Telugu along with their Tamil versions.

Surya is one of the celebrated heroes among Telugu fans. His Ghajini evoked good response there. Following Ghajini, his Deepavali release Vel got ready as Deva with songs and dubbing work completed. But theatre owners are not too eager to release the movie.

The reason is all the theatres are overflowing with new releases. Distributors and producers connected with the Telugu release are pretty worried over the delay. Analysing the real reason behind the problem, it is found that Happy Days is the only big hit of the season in Tollywood. The actual unspoken delay is because Tamil box-office hits are actually affecting the Telugu industry. And this is one of the ways the Telugu film association is opposing the entry of dubbed Tamil films which create a serious threat
